Shocking footage has emerged of a carjacker stealing a woman's Mini from her driveway and then dragging her along the main road leaving her for dead.

Nikki Law-Piddy left the engine running to de-ice her car when the thief took his chance and sneaked inside the car parked on a driveway in Kitwell Lane, Bartley Green, Birmingham.

As he began to drive off the woman tried to stop him but ended up being pulled along underneath the wheels and then abandoned in the middle of the road.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on 3 February after the stolen vehicle was recovered outside a unit on Station Road, in Old Hill.

He is currently on police bail while inquiries continue.

Detective constable Stuart Parker from West Midlands Police, said: "Not only has the victim suffered substantial bruising and a fractured finger in the robbery, she has understandably been left frightened and scared by what happened.

"We're doing all we can to find whoever was responsible and as well as arresting one man in connection with the robbery, we're also carrying out a forensic examination of the vehicle.

"This happened in broad daylight and we would urge anyone who witnessed anything which might be relevant to our investigation to contact us.

"We'd also like to remind people there are always opportunistic thieves around looking for an easy steal, and not to leave cars unlocked and unattended, with the keys in the ignition."
