Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is reportedly in line for a bumper pay rise following his impressive performances for the Blues thus far this season.

According to the Mirror, the Serbian, is expected to see his weekly wages increase considerably after becoming one of Jose Mourinho's favourite players in the team.

The report claims that the former Benfica player can expect his salary to rise from his current £70,000-a-week to almost £100,000-a-week in the coming months.

Matic has been a key player for Chelsea this season, and is one of the main reasons for the Stamford Bridge outfit's phenomenal run in the Premier League this campaign.

The Serbian international has formed a formidable partnership with Cesc Fabregas at the heart of the midfield and this has impressed the Blues hierarchy, who are now willing to reward him with a bumper new pay deal.

The 26-year-old midfielder will be a big miss for Chelsea's Capital One Cup final against Tottenham on Sunday as he serves a two-game ban for lashing out at Ashley Barnes during last weekend's game against Burnley.

Matic's Blues teammate Filipe Luis has admitted that the midfielder will be missed when Chelsea take on Spurs in the final, but feels that the team has enough strength in depth to cope with his absence. Brazilian midfielder Ramires is expected to take his place in the midfield alongside Fabregas.

"Matic is a really important player. Everybody knows he has played in almost all the games this season, so he's really important, and when an important player doesn't play, of course we miss him," Luis said, as quoted by the Mirror.

"But we have more than enough players to help the team. We have a really good squad, everybody is ready to play this game so I don't have to cry about it, I have to look forward and try to do what I can do to help us win," the Brazilian full-back added.
