Mattia Destro's agent Renzo Contratto has confirmed Chelsea are interested in signing the Roma striker – but claims the player "prefers to remain" at the Serie A giants.

The 23-year-old star has reportedly caught the attention of both Chelsea and Tottenham after proving to be a sensation in the Serie A last season, becoming Roma's top scorer with 13 domestic league goals.

Recent reports suggested Jose Mourinho's side have held negotiations with Roma over a possible swap deal that would see Fernando Torres moving to Italy with Destro going the opposite way to Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless his agent has claimed that even though it is true Jose Mourinho is keen on the Roma striker, there is no chance at all over a swap deal with Torres.

"It's true that Chelsea are interested in Mattia. But the reports regarding a swap deal have no foundation, it's all speculation," Contratto said as quoted by Press Association Sport.

Furthermore Destro's agent claims neither Roma nor the player are keen on a summer exit.

"Roma don't want to sell Mattia and Mattia prefers to remain at Roma," he added.

Anyhow, Contratto's quotes leave Torres' future at Chelsea up in the air as should it be true the Blues are searching the market for a striker the Spaniard will probably have to move away – as Mourinho already has new signing Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in his ranks.

At the same time Destro's intention to stay at Roma means a blow for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is said to be looking to strengthen his attack with a striker.

Indeed recent reports in Italy also claimed Roma director Walter Sabatini has been in contact with Spurs technical director and friend Franco Baldini regarding Destro's future in a potential deal that could also include unsettle Roberto Soldado.
