Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Gets Overclocked to 1.8GHz with Note2Core Kernel Samsung

Galaxy Note 2 N7100 users can now rejoice over the release of Note2Core Kernel, as it enables overclocking on their devices. The Note 2 is undoubtedly already a fast device - it comes with a powerful quad-core Exynos processor (clocked at 1.6GHz) that runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

This makes the Galaxy Note 2 a capable device that can run most high-resolution games and apps for mobile devices with ease, besides executing other processes in the background. The overclocking ability of the Note2Core Kernel further boosts its power-crunching capabilities. The programme was created by XDA Developers member - g.lewarne.


The Note2Core Kernel is compatible with the international versions of the Galaxy Note 2 (both regular and LTE). However, it has no support for carrier-based variants, as yet.

Note2Core Kernel Overclocking Features

Each compatible model gets three different modes of overclocking, which are as follows:

  • Regular (STD) - No Overclocking. Set at the default 1.6 GHz and can be used as a replacement for the stock kernel
  • Overclock (OC) - Processor can be cranked up to 1.8 GHz and has been extensively tested and found to be stable
  • Extreme (EX) - Also cranks up the processor to 1.8 GHz and offers the best possible performance. But exceptions are found where data corruption may and if that happens, wiping everything clean and flashing a fresh ROM is the only solution

The other notable feature of the kernel (all three versions) is that it enables auto-root on any Touchwiz-based ROM installed on it, including a stock Samsung ROM. Besides, the ROM reportedly offers an additional 50MB of RAM than most other kernels in the market.

How to Flash Note2Core Kernel on Galaxy Note 2

  • Ensure you are using either the Stock Samsung firmware or a Touchwiz-based custom ROM on
    • Note: Note2Core is based on Touchwiz-based ROMs and will not work with AOSP-based ROMs.
  • Download and install Samsung USB drivers to your computer. If you have already installed Samsung KIES or manual drivers, skip to next step
  • Download Note2Core kernel for your device (regular or LTE) from XDA source page and ensure you download the Odin Tar file
  • After downloading Note2Core Kernel, extract zip file to a new folder on computer's desktop and then download Odin
  • Power off your phone and boot into download mode. To do so, press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power keys until the display turns on. Then tap Volume Up button to progress into download mode
  • Launch Odin on computer by double-clicking the Odin3 v3.xx.exe file
  • Connect Note 2 in Download Mode to your computer. The Odin window pops up with a green box to the left indicating the message: Added!
    • Note: If you don't get Added! message ensure you have installed the USB drivers correctly (repeat installation) or try using a different USB Port or a different USB cable, preferably the one shipped with the phone.
  • In Odin, click PDA button, and browse to downloaded Note2Core kernel tar file and select it
  • Leave all options in Odin at default values but ensure the Re-Partition check box is not checked
  • Once you have verified that all steps up to previous one are done correctly, click Start in Odin. This will initiate the Note2Core kernel flashing process and you will see the progress bar in the window. If the flashing process is successful, Odin will show a PASS message with a green background. This means it is now safe to disconnect your phone from the computer

If Odin Gets Stuck: If Odin gets stuck and doesn't respond or you get a FAIL message (on a red background), then disconnect the phone from the computer, close Odin, remove battery from phone, reinsert it, and proceed from connecting device (in Download Mode) to Odin
