The Revenant was honoured with the best motion picture award at the Golden Globes 2016, while Leonardo DiCaprio took home the best actor award for his work in the film. That was not it for the survival biopic as Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu bagged the best director's award for the movie.

In a glittering ceremony, hosted by English comedian Ricky Gervais, the 41-year-old actor thanked director Inarritu for his "leadership, vision and acute attention" and dedicated the award to the community of the era. DiCaprio said: "I want to share this award with all the first nation's people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world. It is time that we recognize your history."

Academy award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence too walked away with a Golden Globe for her performance in Joy. She portrayed the character of Joy Mangano, a Long Island entrepreneur, who invented the self-wringing Miracle Mop.

Lawrence has previously won Golden Globes for The Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. In her acceptance speech the actress said, "Every time I'm up here it's because of you. Thank you for choosing me and thank you for your brilliance."
