Manchester United's new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has thanked Borussia Dortmund and their fans after the midfielder completed his switch to Old Trafford on 6 July. He signed a four-year deal with the Red Devils, with an option to extend it by one more year.

The 27-year-old became the first Armenian player to join the Premier League and also Jose Mourinho's third signing, following the capture of Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has already admitted that he is excited to work under the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager and the Portuguese tactician played a key role in his decision to move to Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan was full of praise for Dortmund fans and went on to reveal that they will have a "special" place in his heart. The Armenian international admitted that one of the major factors in his decision to leave Dortmund for United was honouring his family's legacy of embracing new challenges.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Borussia Dortmund - from the administration to the coaching staff, my teammates and of course all the amazing fans - for the love and support you have given me in the past seasons," Mkhitaryan wrote on his official Facebook page.

"I will never forget the moments we shared together on and off the pitch over the last three years and I feel truly privileged to have represented such a great club and a great city."

"When I think back to my roots and my father's football career, I was taught to embrace new challenges and I felt that in order to honour my family's legacy, I had to take this step in my career and join Manchester United.

"Thank you you once more for all the memories. You will always have a special place in my heart."
