United States Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle is facing formal demands to testify under oath and a call for a federal watchdog probe after a senior Democrat alleged she requested $100,000 from a political donor to clear personal debts and accepted corporate-funded private jet travel.

According to an official press release issued by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the committee, formally requested that the Department of State Office of the Inspector General (OIG) launch an immediate investigation into Guilfoyle's reported conduct.

In a separate letter disclosed in the release, Meeks called on Guilfoyle to appear before committee members to answer questions under oath regarding potential conflicts of interest, ethics violations and abuse of official authority.

The press release notes that these oversight demands follow investigative reporting by The Wall Street Journal detailing Guilfoyle's dealings with a foreign company's lobbyist and financial solicitations directed at a political donor.

Alleged $100,000 Request and Encrypted Messages

According to details outlined in the House Foreign Affairs Committee press release, reports indicate that while her ambassadorial nomination was pending, Guilfoyle requested $100,000 from political donor Eric Deters to cover personal debt.

In exchange, she allegedly offered to seek intervention from senior Trump administration officials regarding Deters' tax and legal matters.

The press release directly quotes Ranking Member Meeks pointing to reported message exchanges that reveal financial coordination between the ambassador and the donor.

'The reported messages between Ambassador Guilfoyle and Mr. Deters demonstrate that the Ambassador sought to conceal the source of the payment by arranging an anonymous wire transfer and that she repeatedly admonished Mr. Deters not to put any details of their financial arrangement in writing,' Ranking Member Meeks stated in the press release. 'While Mr. Deters claims he ultimately did not transfer the requested $100,000, it must be determined whether Ambassador Guilfoyle solicited funds from any other source.'

Foreign Corporate Access and Private Jet Travel

In addition to the debt-solicitation allegations, the press release states that congressional investigators are scrutinising reports that Ambassador Guilfoyle granted a foreign company's lobbyist direct access to official government meetings, actively promoted the firm's commercial interests and accepted company-sponsored private air travel.

According to the committee's release, Meeks warned that using official diplomatic authority to benefit private entities damages government integrity and diplomatic protocol.

'Together, these reports paint a disturbing picture of an ambassador using her official position and access to senior political appointees to advance the private interests of those willing to pay,' Ranking Member Meeks said in the press release.

Escalating Oversight and Potential Removal

The press release specifies that these oversight actions build upon an October 1 request sent by Ranking Member Meeks to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, seeking answers regarding Guilfoyle's conduct.

According to the official release, Meeks has called for Ambassador Guilfoyle's complete removal from her post should the OIG investigation substantiate the allegations of illegal conduct, administrative rule violations or ethical breaches.

While legal representatives for Guilfoyle have previously denied improper conduct and described communication logs as unverified, the House Foreign Affairs Committee's press release confirms that formal letters requesting full State Department OIG intervention and mandatory under-oath testimony have now been delivered.
