Mother 'Very Invested' in Lindsay Clancy Trial Accused of Killing 2-Year-Old Son She Calls an 'Anti-Christ'

An Illinois mother whom prosecutors say had grown 'very invested' in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has been charged with killing her own two-year-old son, days after the Clancy jury itself ended in a mistrial.

Corie A. Walsh, 40, of Frankfort, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder on Friday, 4 September 2026, according to the Frankfort Police Department and a court proffer filed in the case. The three counts are based on different legal theories of first-degree murder, according to the court documents.

Prosecutors allege Walsh intended to kill Barrett, knew her actions would cause his death, and knew there was a strong probability they would result in his death.

Walsh has not yet entered a plea and remained hospitalised as of this report.

What the Court Documents Allege

According to the court proffer, Frankfort police were called to the home on the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court at about 4:04 pm on Tuesday for a report of an injured child.

A neighbour who arrived at the scene told investigators she found Barrett hanging from a device attached to a basement rafter, with a ligature around his neck and his feet off the ground. The neighbour removed the ligature, lowered him to the floor, and began CPR while calling 911, but he had no pulse and was already cold, according to the documents.

Paramedics and responding officers attempted further efforts to revive the child, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy conducted the following day determined that Barrett died of asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck, prosecutors said.

Court documents state that Walsh was found in an upstairs bathroom with cuts to her wrists and thigh, and that the same neighbour removed a knife from her hand.

An Alleged Motive Tied To Religious Delusion

Prosecutors allege Walsh told officers at the scene that she killed her son because 'he was the devil and the anti-Christ', and that she referred to the location of 'Bear', a nickname Barrett's family used for him.

Court documents allege that Walsh intended to kill her son, knew her actions would cause his death, and understood there was a strong probability those actions would result in death, the legal standard prosecutors must meet for first-degree murder in Illinois.

Witnesses told investigators that Walsh had become deeply engaged with the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts woman who admitted to strangling her three children in 2023 and has argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

According to court documents, Walsh was still actively discussing the Clancy case in a group chat with friends as late as 12:30 pm on Tuesday, hours before her son's death and while the Clancy jury remained deadlocked in deliberations.

A Coincidental Mistrial the Same Week

The Clancy case that prosecutors say had preoccupied Walsh reached its own conclusion on Friday, the same day Walsh was formally charged, when a judge declared a mistrial after the jury told the court for a second time it could not reach a unanimous verdict.

Clancy's case drew national attention for weeks, with extensive social media discussion of postpartum psychosis and gaps in maternal mental health care, the same public conversation that court documents allege Walsh had been closely following.

Three other children, including an infant, were in the Walsh home at the time of Barrett's death and were unharmed, according to court documents.

Walsh's husband was out of town for work when the incident occurred and flew home after learning what had happened. Frankfort Police Chief Leanne Chelepis offered condolences in a statement, saying the department's thoughts were with everyone affected by the tragedy.

What Happens Next

Walsh remained at Silver Cross Hospital as of Thursday, where prosecutors sought an arrest warrant and asked the court to deny her pretrial release once she is discharged.

She is expected to be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in court on 8 September before Judge Amy Bertani Tomczak. Investigators said forensic analysis of Walsh's phone, recovered from the bathroom where she was found, remains ongoing.

Walsh remains hospitalised, and prosecutors are seeking an arrest warrant and opposing pretrial release once she is discharged. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Barrett's death remains ongoing.
