Former South Africa cricketer Paul Adams bamboozled batsman with his unique chinaman action Getty

The Indian Premier League is known to give youngsters a chance and produce new talent with a number of cricketers from Ambati Rayadu to Ravindra Jadeja using it as a stepping stone to impress spectators and selectors. On 29 April, the IPL gave us our first left-arm Chinaman bowler in Shivil Kaushik who was turning out for the Gujarat Lions.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a mark in the field of cricket and not famed for his class as a spin bowler but his action has got the world talking about him.

The action is similar to that of former South African spinner Paul Adams whose Chinaman-like movement made the world stand up and notice. What is similar is both the bowlers turn their bodies almost 360 degrees while bowling.

As a result, Shivil ends up facing towards cover when he delivers the ball rather than the batsman. The unique action though did not bamboozle the Rising Pune Supergiants batsman who carted him for 32 off his three overs.

Though he did not impress on the field, he was a hit on social media with many commenting on his action. Adams too tweeted saying: "Remind you off someone! Wow #Kaushik! Great to see the art of Chinaman bowling alive".
