Julian Newman Faces Abuse Claims After Ex Shares Bruises and Video of Alleged Altercation

American basketball player and online personality Julian Newman is facing abuse allegations from his former girlfriend, Janaya Berry, after she shared photographs of bruises and videos that appear to show a physical confrontation between the pair.

Berry posted a series of TikTok videos and photographs in late August alleging that Newman subjected her to physical and emotional abuse during their relationship. One video appears to show Newman arguing with the person filming before moving towards her and making physical contact with her arm. Berry also shared photographs of marks and bruises on her arms and legs, which she alleged were caused by Newman.

Newman has denied Berry's account, describing the material as a 'one-sided' portrayal of what he called an 'unhealthy and toxic' relationship. He said he has videos, recordings and messages that could provide additional context but does not intend to release private material publicly.

Video And Bruising Claims

Berry posted the material under the title 'The Real Julian Newman', including a roughly one-minute recording from inside a residence. Newman can be heard arguing with the person filming before appearing to grab and slap her arm. He repeatedly asks for a hug while the other person tells him to stop and accuses him of forcing the situation.

Berry later shared photographs showing what appear to be bruises or marks on her arms and legs, alleging that Newman had hit and punched her during their relationship. She also posted a separate video in which Newman appears to plead with her following an alleged dispute over infidelity.

The footage and photographs have since been widely reposted. However, they do not establish when the recordings were made, what happened before or afterwards, or how the injuries shown in the photographs came about.

Berry also shared alleged text messages and other material, although their authenticity and full context have not been independently established.

Newman Rejects Allegations

Newman said Berry had presented only one side of their two-year relationship, claiming he had supported her personally, professionally and financially before ending what he described as an unhealthy relationship.

He also claimed Berry travelled across the country during the weekend of his 22 August boxing appearance at Adin Ross' Brand Risk 15 event and appeared at a hotel where he and his team were conducting a weigh-in. Newman said efforts were made to avoid further confrontation.

His participation in the event is independently confirmed, with Newman defeating Thiirty by unanimous decision.

Newman claimed Berry's allegations became public after she saw him dating other people. He said he had videos, recordings, text messages and other material that could show 'a very different side' of the relationship, but would not release private information publicly.

Allegations Remain Unproven

The dispute has drawn attention as Newman maintains a prominent online presence following his rise as a teenage basketball prospect and more recent appearances in influencer-focused content and boxing.
