Kim Kallstrom
Kallstrom in Abu Dhabi, not in north London, says his father.

Kim Kallstrom is not in talks with Arsenal over a deadline day switch to the Premier League, according to the midfielder's father.

The former Lyon stalwart is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Gunners after Arsene Wenger revealed he is looking to add another midfielder to his squad before Friday's deadline at 11pm (GMT).

The Daily Mail suggest Arsenal have been in talks with the Spartak Moscow midfielder as they look to supplement the loss of the injured Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, with Mathieu Flamini also facing a three match suspension.

But Kallstrom's father has cooled talk of an imminent move to north London, telling fotbollskanalen.se: "I know nothing about it (an approach from Arsenal.)

"Last time I talked to him he was in Abu Dhabi with Spartak Moscow."

While the Gunners have been persistently linked with a striker throughout the transfer window – with Alvaro Morata and Mirko Vucinic tipped to join the club at different stages – Wenger has now shifted his priority to a midfielder with Aaron Ramsey facing six weeks on the sidelines and Jack Wilshere struggling with an ankle injury.

"We are still trying to bring one body in because of Ramsey's setback and Flamini's suspension," Wenger told a press conference.

"80 per cent of the activities happen on the last day. I would scrap the winter transfer window with ease."

The club were widely reported to in talks with Schalke over a prospective £30m move for midfielder Julian Draxler, but it would appear the Gunners are not intent on bringing the Germany international to the Emirates before tonight's deadline.

The Draxler situation has been created by the newspapers, not by me. He will stay at Schalke," Wenger added.

Arsene Wenger saw his slide slip to second in the Premier League following their 2-2 draw with Southampton mid-week.
