A Black Country man dressed up in the costume of the Klu Klux Klan and carried out a mock hanging on a golliwog, a court has heard.

Christopher Philips, 23, was accused of taking to the stage at a music concert in West Wales to carry out the act in March.

Philips, formerly known as Darren Clifft, allegedly did it at an event organised by a far-right 'white pride' group.

The life-size black doll was pictured strung up in images which circulated after the event. It was alleged Philips also posted a video of the scene on the internet.

An investigation was launched soon afterwards by counter-terrorism officers in the west Midlands, who arrested Philips within weeks.

Phillips, of Pool Hayes, faced two counts of stirring racial hatred at Walsall Magistrates Court. He did not enter a plea, and was bailed until October 24.
