Liam Payne and Rita Ora sent fans into meltdown by teasing a possible collaboration for the upcoming Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack.

Both the singers posted the same picture, where they are seen posing next to each other, on their respective social media accounts with the caption "#FiftyShadesFreed".

Fifty Shades Freed is the third and final instalment in the trilogy based on English author E.L James' erotic novels. The film is slated for release in February 2018 and stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in the starring roles.

While Ora's tweet has been liked 25,000 times and retweeted 72,000 times, Payne's Instagram post has already racked up over 1m likes.

Even though the singers haven't officially announced the collaboration, fans were quick to take the hint.

A Twitter user said: "So I guess @LiamPayne and rita ora has a duet song in the movie"

"Probably means that they have a 50 shades track together." wrote another.

Most of them seemed ecstatic by the news and couldn't contain their excitement.

Predicting the success of the duet, a fan Tweeted: "OMFG, WORLDWIDE DOMINATION INCOMING"

"Cant wait to hear and see the video... Its so exciting," said another.

A third wrote: "OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING"

"I wanna hear this now. Oh my God that will be amazing. We are blessed guys," tweeted another fan.

A fan also also asked if the two will have acting jobs in the film rather than a soundtrack.

"Does this mean you both will collaborate for the movie or Liam will be your leading man on the movie?," she said.

Ora already stars in the Fifty Shades franchise as Christian Grey's sister, Mia.

If the duet happens, Payne will be following in the footsteps of another One Direction alum, Zayn Malik.

Earlier this year, the Pillow Talk singer and Taylor Swift released I Don't Wanna Live Forever for the second film, Fifty Shades Darker.
