Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has admitted that he is eagerly waiting for his second appearance against Liverpool when they take on the Reds at Anfield on Sunday (17 January). The Frenchman made his Premier League debut and scored his first goal for the Red Devils against the Merseyside club instantly endearing himself to the Old Trafford faithful.

Louis van Gaal's side ran away 3-1 winners in the corresponding fixture in September last year, and they will be keen to get back to winning ways then they face their arch rivals at Anfield. Martial, who had just arrived in Manchester following a £38m move from AS Monaco, came off the bench for his first appearance in the English top-flight and admitted that despite being new, he was already aware of the deep-rooted rivalry between the two clubs.

"It's a high-intensity game that is very important for the fans and it's one of the most viewed games anywhere in the world," Martial told MUTV.

"From the minute I arrived, I was told that I'd got here at the moment that we were about to play against one of our big rivals. I was told that I would have to be ready and waiting, so I made sure that I was prepared mentally and focused for the game ahead."

"So the fact that I managed to come on made me feel really great and then it was even better to get on the scoresheet, as it allowed the supporters to get to know me and see what I could do as a player. It was a really great start to my career at this club," the French forward explained.

The 20-year-old French international also thanked Louis van Gaal and his teammates for the 'faith' they reposed in him, which he believes is the reason for his incredible start to life in the Premier League. "The fact that the manager has shown faith in me has also helped me and it's thanks to him and my team-mates for what I've achieved so far," the former Monaco forward added.
