Authorities in Pennsylvania have made two arrests after the drug LSD was taken by students at Villanova University, leading to several incidents that sent three people to the hospital on 13 February. First-year student Justin Yim, an 18-year-old from Douglaston, New York, faces several of drug related charges and is being held on a $50,000 (£34,646) bail.

Radnor Township police said they found 37 doses of LSD in Yim's South Campus dorm room in the Main Line university. Authorities said they also discovered marijuana and nearly $9,000 in cash, ABC6 reported. Yim is believed to have supplied the LSD that sent the three individuals to the hospital.

"We have not had any other calls in years that related to LSD," Radnor Police Lieutenant Chris Flanagan said during a press conference on 15 February. "So this was an unusual circumstance."

Shortly after midnight, public safety officers responded to a report that a male student appeared to be out of control and under the influence of drugs. The student, who was later determined to be Yim's roommate, reportedly walked into a campus facility and assaulted a female. When public safety officers responded, the male allegedly began assaulting the officers as well.

According to ABC6, Radnor police arrived, took the male into custody and transported him to Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was charged with aggravated assault.

Public safety officer later responded to another incident involving a second male student and a juvenile girl, who was visiting the campus, both under the influence of LSD. Police said the two seemed to be in similar drug-induced states and that alcohol appeared to be a factor. According to Metro, one of the individuals had to be restrained by police.

The two were also transported to the hospital. One of the three people involved reportedly explained his behaviour by repeatedly admitting that he was under the influence of LSD.

An investigation led authorities to Yim and his alleged collection of drugs and money. He was arrested on 14 February when he returned to campus. He now faces expulsion. All three students, including Yim's unnamed roommate, have been discharged from the hospital.
