Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer told Rick Ross 'I have no idea who you are' on Thursday, 1 October, as she rebuffed his lawyer's request for faster release based on celebrity status.

The rapper had surrendered earlier that morning on two battery charges linked to allegations by his former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick. His lawyer cited his fame and safety in seeking an expedited release.

Judge Addresses Rick Ross Directly

Ross appeared by video from custody after being booked at around 6:10am. His lawyer asked Glazer to speed up his release from Miami-Dade County Jail, telling her that the defendant 'is a celebrity'.

'What does that mean?' Glazer asked.

The lawyer referred to Ross's red jumpsuit and raised concerns about his safety, while acknowledging uncertainty about what the judge could do. Glazer then spoke directly to the rapper, addressing him by his legal name, William Roberts II.

'Hi, Mr. Roberts. I have no idea who you are, except as somebody here in the court who's going to be treated fairly just like everybody else here.'

Her response concerned how Ross would be treated in court. It was not a finding on the allegations against him, which he denies. He has pleaded not guilty.

Bond was set separately for the two offences, one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanour count of battery. Both charges are domestic violence-related.

August Encounter Behind Rick Ross Charges

The allegations concern an encounter at Ross's Star Island home on 28 August, according to TMZ's account. Kendrick told police that he became angry over a photograph in which she had been tagged on social media.

She alleged that an argument escalated after he questioned her about another relationship. According to the account, Kendrick accused Ross of slapping her, striking her repeatedly and choking her until she could not breathe.

Kendrick also supplied photographs of injuries she said were connected to the encounter. The allegations have not been proven in court.

She publicly accused Ross of physical abuse before his surrender. The alleged encounter occurred on 28 August, while the police report was made on 29 September, a gap his legal team highlighted in disputing the accusation.

Ross surrendered voluntarily and declined to discuss the allegations with officers, according to the report.

Lawyers Challenge the Accusation

Ross's legal team challenged the accusation and the timing of the complaint. In a statement, his lawyers said he was 'being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear'. The statement did not set out an alternative account of the alleged encounter.

'The ex did not even file a police report until a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place,' they said.

The statement continued, 'Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges. He respectfully requests that his friends, fans and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course.'

Ross is scheduled to return to court for arraignment on Thursday, 22 October. Glazer ordered him to surrender any firearms and concealed weapons, and prohibited him from possessing firearms while the case is pending.
