A comedy club in Nottingham has apologised to audience members after maggots rained from an overhead air-conditioning system during a live show.

The maggots had been living in a dead pigeon that had become trapped in the vents. The creatures were disturbed when staff switched on the air-conditioning during the event.

People have taken to Tripadvisor to complain about the incident, which took place during the Jongleurs Comedy Club at Oceana last Friday.

One reviewer called Seanspark1 branded the club "awful", stating: "I will keep it short. Money making rip off, maggots from the ceiling."

A spokesperson for the Luminar Group, who runs the club night, said: "It would appear that a pigeon crawled through some side netting on the building and went into the air-conditioning unit. It subsequently died.

"We would stress it was only a few [maggots] and there were no complaints on the evening".

Jongleurs has since contacted all customers who were at the event and offered them free tickets.
