Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £15m bid for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman, according to a Daily Mail report.

The 22-year-old has played in 10 of the Dutch national team's last 11 matches and is expected to be a key man in their bid for Euro 2012 glory.

Strootman, who has been dubbed the "new Roy Keane", captains PSV and has managed to keep Manchester City's holding midfielder Nigel de Jong out of the national team.

Ferguson traditionally prefers to complete his summer deals early and the report says United has scouted Strootman 12 times in recent weeks.

United have done some smart business with PSV in the past, with players such as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam arriving at Old Trafford from the Dutch club.
