Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi's agent has made it clear that the defender wants to leave the La Liga club in the summer.

The Argentine defender, who plays for Valencia in Spain has emerged as the Red Devils' primary defensive target in recent weeks with Louis van Gaal making a defensive signing a priority ahead of next season.

The Valencia star's signature has become more important in recent days after Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels rejected a chance to move to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 27-year-old defender has been a mainstay for the La Liga side playing 35 league games and contributing six goals as Valencia grabbed the last Champions League spot ahead of Sevilla.

Eugenio Lopez, who is the defender's agent, has now made it clear that his client wants to make the next step in his career and will consider offers from top clubs around the world, which should benefit the player and his family.

In what will come as a big blow to United, the agent has denied reports that a pre-contract agreement has been signed with the 20-times English champions. Moreover, he has revealed that discussions are ongoing with several clubs regarding his client's transfer in the summer.

"Nicolas is comfortable with Valencia and the fans but will have an option to improve his career," Lopez said, as quoted by Goal.

"Jorge Mendes already knows that Nico wants to leave Valencia. Nico will do everything possible to get it, he will do everything possible to leave."

"If there's an offer from a club we consider a top club, and it benefits his family, Nico wants to go," Otamendi's agent reiterated.

"There are many discussions with several clubs who want to sign Otamendi. There is no pre-contract signed with any club," Lopez added.
