A shocking incident at Moscow airport has left an 18-month-old child in a coma, suffering from severe skull fractures, after a tourist violently slammed the toddler headfirst onto the floor.

The disturbing event has sent ripples of horror through onlookers and beyond as many grapple with the brutality inflicted upon such a vulnerable victim.

Appalling footage from a Moscow airport's arrivals hall shows a male tourist suddenly grabbing an 18-month-old boy and throwing him headfirst to the ground. The child is now in a coma, battling severe skull fractures and spinal injuries.

A Frightening Airport Ordeal

Reports indicate the child arrived in Russia with his mother, fleeing the bombing in Iran. Security footage shows the tourist, identified as 31-year-old Vladimir Vitkov from Belarus, observing the boy standing by his suitcase.

The attacker, whom a Russian official called a 'monster,' seemingly checks for witnesses before abruptly grabbing the child and violently throwing him onto the floor in Sheremetyevo airport's arrivals area. A man then rushed over to pick up the gravely injured boy.

This incident unfolded as the boy's pregnant mother retrieved his pushchair shortly after their flight arrived. Authorities are currently examining if racism or another factor prompted this act against the child.

Reports indicated the boy's family had reached Russia after a challenging journey, having escaped Iran through Afghanistan. The suspect had reportedly travelled to Moscow from either Cyprus or Egypt. He was swiftly apprehended following the event, as suspicions arose that he was intoxicated by drugs.

The Suspect's State and Past

'A drug-addled monster grabbed a toddler in the arrivals hall and threw him on the floor with all his might. All this is incredibly difficult to bear,' Moscow Region Children's Ombudswoman Ksenia Mishonova said.

'I hope the detained monster will receive the full severity of the law. I wish the child a speedy recovery. May the parents have the strength to survive this,' Mishonova added.

Reports from the Russian Investigative Committee indicated that traces of cannabis were discovered in the suspect's blood. Furthermore, other sources noted that drugs were found in his possession. He was reportedly unable to provide any coherent explanation for his actions.

When questioned by officers about prior police issues, he responded, 'I made mistakes like that.' Reports indicated that Vitkov also has a daughter who is the same age as the boy who was thrown.

Reports also revealed that Vitkov has a daughter the same age as the child flung to the ground. A female companion expressed profound 'shock' at his alleged conduct. The DailyMail stated that the suspect is currently under investigation for attempted murder.

A Violent Scene's Impact

'A man, while in the airport arrivals area in a state of drug intoxication, grabbed a child and, lifting him, threw him to the floor with considerable force. The boy was hospitalised in a medical facility for assistance. The man's criminal actions were stopped by eyewitnesses of the incident,' the committee said.

The incident took place just before midnight yesterday in the departure lounge. Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russia's busiest, manages over 40 million passengers and more than 300,000 aircraft annually.

The shocking act at Sheremetyevo Airport has left many questioning the motives behind such an unprovoked attack on a defenceless child.

As the toddler continues his fight for recovery, the wider community awaits answers and justice for this horrific incident.
