'Bored Rich Kids': North West's Dream of a 'Regular Job' at Starbucks Divides the Internet

North West has grown up surrounded by designer clothes, luxury holidays and one of Hollywood's most famous families, but the 13-year-old has revealed a surprisingly ordinary ambition: working at Starbucks. The daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West said she would like a 'regular job' at the coffee chain, dividing the internet.

While some social media users found North's dream refreshingly relatable, others were far less impressed, with critics questioning whether a child raised in extraordinary wealth can truly understand what a 'regular job' entails.

The remark has reignited a well-worn debate about celebrity children and privilege, with some branding the trend 'bored rich kids' while others defended North for simply wanting to experience life outside the spotlight.

North West's Starbucks Plan Gets Internet Treatment

Critics were quick to accuse North of playing at a life she will never actually need. One user summed up the mood bluntly: 'bored rich kids will do anything to kill boredom.'

Others went further, framing the comment as part of a wider pattern among wealthy celebrities. 'Cool the billionaire class wanting to cosplay as the working class,' wrote one X user, while another simply called it 'rich kids romanticising regular jobs.'

Supporters pushed back just as forcefully, arguing North could not win either way. 'If she didn't want to work, y'all would be calling her a spoiled rich kid,' one person wrote, while another said it was 'honestly pretty cool that despite having everything, she genuinely craves a taste of normal everyday life.'

The Age Rule North Has Actually Checked

The comment came from an interview with Dazed magazine's autumn 2026 issue, in which North was asked what she would do if she were not a working artist. She had once considered a career in basketball but ruled it out, telling the magazine instead that she still wants to work and hopes to start at Starbucks when she turns 14.

'I want to have a regular job. I wanna work at Starbucks next year, I think I can because I'm gonna be 14,' she said.

Starbucks says its standard minimum age for employment is 16, although the company notes that the age can be higher or lower depending on local regulations.

In California, where North is based, 14- and 15-year-olds can work under specific restrictions with permits, meaning her comment reflects her understanding of the rules rather than a confirmed offer.

In the same interview, she also discussed her daily rehearsal routine and named the worst career advice she had ever received as being told to start her career later.

The £3.9 Billion Fashion Empire Waiting in the Wings

North's coffee shop ambitions arrive alongside a rather different vision from her mother. Asked about North's modelling and business ambitions, Kim Kardashian has previously spoken about her daughter's natural interest in fashion and said: 'I think it's just in her blood and who she is and what she loves to do.'

Kardashian has already been laying commercial groundwork for that future. Earlier this year, three trademark applications were filed for 'NOR11', a name linked to North, covering clothing and accessories, jewellery and watches, and bags.

The applications were filed through KimYe's Kid Inc. and remain pending applications rather than confirmed registrations or proof of a launched business. The move would place North in a lineage of family businesses built on personal branding.

Kardashian's own SKIMS shapewear label was valued at roughly £3.9 billion ($5 billion) following a funding round in November 2025, according to Reuters. Meanwhile, her ex-husband built Yeezy into a major fashion and footwear brand.

Whether a part-time coffee job changes any of that remains to be seen. For now, though, North appears keen to try both worlds at once.
