Premier League big guns are set to miss out as European giants Real Madrid and Juventus are planning a swap deal involving their players Angel Di Maria and Paul Pogba respectively, according to the Express.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have at different times been linked to the in-demand players throughout the summer transfer window.

However, Real and Juventus who are both keen to hold on to their players over the summer, are open to the idea of a swap deal. The Champions League winners are looking for a strong player who can boss the midfield and feel Pogba is best suited for the role.

On the other hand, Antonio Conte has been scouring the market for a top quality winger to partner Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente in the Juventus forward line. Apart from Di Maria, the Serie A champions have also been linked to Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez.

The Red Devils and the Gunners are thought to be very keen on a move for Di Maria, with both the clubs ready to meet Real's asking price to land the Argentine winger. Louis van Gaal is looking to bolster the United squad to return to winning ways and put last season's nightmares behind.

Arsene Wenger, who saw his team struggle to find multiple goal scoring outlets consistently last season, is also hoping to land Di Maria to add more bite to the offensive line.

The 26-year-old winger had an impressive season at the Santiago Bernabeu last season, which also saw him play a key role to help them win the Champions League title. The Argentinean had claimed earlier in the summer that he is not sure where his future lies and that he might move clubs over the summer.

On the other hand, Pogba has been one of the most sought after midfielders during the summer transfer window, with all the top clubs of Europe battling to secure his signature.

Pogba has been in the news since his free transfer from United to Juventus, and has been in stellar form for the Serie A champions.

Jose Mourinho has shown a keen interest in bringing the Juventus midfielder to Stamford Bridge and pair him at the heart of the midfield alongside his holding midfielder Nemanja Matic.

At City, their midfielder Yaya Toure's future remains up in the air and he could leave the Premier League champions after he lashed out at the club after the passing of his brother earlier in the summer.

So now the Citizens feel that the towering French midfielder will be a perfect replacement for the Ivory Coast star.

However, if this swap deal does take place, it will be a big blow to the PL teams who have spent a good part of their summer pursuing the two stars.
