A previously unseen portrait and short film of Nelson Mandela was released today as part of a new series: 21 ICONS South Africa.

The portrait and short film shows Nelson Mandela at his home in Qunu, Eastern Cape, in late 2011. The film shows Mandela sitting for the portrait and includes a number of prominent South Africa discussing his impact on their nation and the wider world.

21 ICONS South Africa combines photographic portraits and television short films in a captivating series that shares the inspiring stories of South Africans who have reached the pinnacle of achievement in their fields of endeavour. These 21 icons have captured the global imagination with their dignity, humanity, and selfless struggle for a better world. The project is the creation of celebrated photographer and documentary filmmaker Adrian Steirn, who has been working for more than two years on what has become his biggest and most ambitious project to date.
