One Powerball jackpot winner has been announced from California Reuters

Powerball's winning jackpot numbers were announced on Wednesday night (13 January) and the lucky numbers are 8, 27, 34, 4, 19 with the Powerball of 10.

California Powerball officials confirmed that one jackpot winner has already come forward from Chino Hills, California. A lottery official told ABC7 that the winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven located at 4092 Chino Hills Pkwy.

They also said that 12 tickets matching five of the six numbers in Wednesday's drawing were sold in the state.

This time's jackpot broke records by becoming the world's biggest lottery prize at an estimated $1.5bn (£1.04bn) after no one came forward with a winning ticket following the previous draws, which resulted in a total of 20 rollovers since 4 November.

This Wednesday's prize value could have risen following last minute ticket buying on hours ahead of the drawing.

The winner has the choice of taking the jackpot money in annual payments over 29 years, or could opt for a lump-sum payment. However, winners will have to pay 39.6% of the money in federal income taxes, in addition to any state taxes.

Powerball is played in 44 states as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah are the only six states where the lottery is not held.
