And finally, there is some respite for Andre Villas-Boas.

In an evening filled with the memories of legendary Welsh player Gary Speed, the Blues have pulled off a sensational win over Newscastle United at the Sports Direct Arena.

Chelsea, in fact, missed a gilt-edged chance to take the lead when Frank Lampard saw his first-half penalty expertly saved by Tim Krul, but Villas-Boas' boys did not have to wait too long as Juan Mata crossed for Didier Drogba to power a header past Krul on 38 minutes.

The two final goals came very late - Salomon Kalou on 89minutes and Daniel Sturridge in stoppage time.

Chelsea are now third on the Premier League table with 28 points, above Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference.
