Barcelona can extend their lead over Atletico Madrid at the top of the La Liga table to six points with victory against Sporting Gijon at El Molinon on 17 February.

Where to watch live

Kick-off is set for 5.30pm GMT. The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 2 HD.

Overview

Sporting Gijon are on a four-match unbeaten run in the league and were held to a 2-2 draw at El Molinon by Rayo Vallecano on 12 February. The Asturian side have lost nine of their last 10 head-to-head meetings with Barcelona in La Liga.

Midfielder Dani Ndi suffered a hamstring injury in the Rayo match and will not play against Barca, while striker Antonio Sanabria (leg) is a major doubt.

Barcelona continued their impressive league form with a 6-1 thrashing of Celta Vigo at the Nou Camp on 14 February. The Catalan giants will go six points clear at the top of the La Liga table with victory at El Molinon.

Barca coach Luis Enrique has no fresh injury concerns. Jordi Alba, Sergi Roberto and Sandro Ramirez have been left out of the squad travelling to Asturias.

What managers say

Abelardo Fernandez: "Playing a game like this is a sign that we are in the first division. It is very difficult to hurt Barcelona, not just for Sporting but for any team in the world. They always have possession of the ball and that means the other team will have to run many kilometres [chasing]."

Luis Enrique: "At last we're going to play the game in hand from the Club World Cup, this game gives us a chance to move a few points ahead of our rivals. It's very important for us, we're playing against a very strong Sporting team who play well out of defence. They are one of the most intense teams and the Molinon has a wonderful atmosphere so we'll need to deal with that intensity and try cause damage."
