Overview

Wawrinka defeated Ruben Bemelmans in the third round clash in straight sets as the final score was 6-3, 7-6, 6-4. The Belgian was set to be eliminated from the second round. However, injury to Jack Sock forced him to retire, which saw Bemelmans progress before being knocked out by the 30-year-old.

Making it to the semi-final of the US Open in 2013 has been the Swiss tennis star's best display in the tournament. He is a win away from sealing a berth in the last eight and favourite to make it to the quarter-final this year.

Having won the French Open after defeating Novak Djokovic, Wawrinka will hope to emulate his form in order to win his second Grand Slam of the calendar year. However, he needs to overcome the American in the fourth round clash on Monday.

Young has already defeated Wawrinka in the US Open in 2011, which was a five-set thriller. He will be looking for another win over the two-time Grand Slam winner. In the previous round, Young came from behind to defeat Viktor Troicki.

He lost the opening two sets against the 29-year-old Serbian. He avoided a straight set defeat by winning the third set in a tiebreaker and went on to win the match as the final score was 4-6, 0-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4.
