Tottenham Hotspur are planning a bid for Red Bull Salzburg winger Sadio Mane, according to the Daily Mirror.

The player has caught the eye in the MLS and is being scouted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle.

The 21-year-old is known for his pace and is expected to be available for a fee in the range of £10m. It is reported that the player prefers a move to White Hart Lane, which will allow him more game time than City and Chelsea.

Tim Sherwood is confident that he will keep the job beyond the summer and is currently in the process of getting Daniel Levy's approval before making a concrete move for the youngster.

The Spurs manager has Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend in his team for the right wing but only has Nacer Chadli to fall back on the left.

The manager is looking to improve his squad for next summer and increase his goal scoring tally, which has been abysmally poor this season.

However, with Spurs currently six points behind Arsenal, the manager is harbouring hopes of overthrowing the Gunners from the fourth spot and claim it to be their won with eight games to go till the end of the season.

Their 3-2 win over Southampton while coming back from a two back deficit has spurred them on and is looking to keep that form till the end of the season.

"We are going to try and accumulate as many points as we possibly can. I think we are a point behind where we were last year [at this stage] and we pushed Arsenal really close so who knows what could happen. It is squeaky bum time, time for the men to stand up and get as many points as we can," Sherwood said.

The Gunners have a game in hand over Spurs and can go nine points clear with a win over Swansea on Tuesday, which will also be a test of sorts for the north London club after being hammered 6-0 against Chelsea.
