9:45: Sergio Aguero has given Manchester City a fighting chance in the Champions League with a stunning hat-trick. A first half penalty and two exceptional finishes after two Bayern Munich mistakes allowed the little Argentine to snatch victory for his side. A win against Roma in a fortnight - providing Bayern don't slip up at home to CSKA - will guarantee them passage to the knock out stages.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have sauntered to a 5-0 win at Schalke to seal their qualification for the last 16 while Luis Suarez has scored his first Barcelona goal in a 4-0 win over APOEL where Lionel Messi secured the Champions League all-time goal-scoring record with his 72nd strike, before adding another two for good measure. That win wasn't enough to lift them to top spot in Group F, however, after Paris Saint Germain secured a 3-1 win over Ajax.

FULL TIME

9:35: Aguero does it again! Kompany thumps a long ball up field that Boetang can't deal with, letting the ball slip underneath his foot. The Argentine is on it in a flash, takes it forward and brilliantly slides it past Neuer again. Where would Manchester City be without this man?

Goal! Manchester City 3-2 Bayern Munich (Sergio Aguero)

9:31: Two hat-tricks in four days for Messi as he adds Barcelona's fourth of the evening after being teed up by Pedro.

Goal! APOEL 0-4 Barcelona (Lionel Messi)

9:29: City are level! Inexplicably, it's Xabi Alonso who gives the ball away, attempting to play a pass in field that is intercepted by Jovetic. He feeds Aguero who is clean through, but has a lot of distance to cover. No matter, he breaks into the box and calmly slides past Neuer. Tremendous composure from the Argentine.

Goal! Manchester City 2-2 Bayern Munich (Sergio Aguero)

Goal! PSG 3-1 Ajax (Edinson Cavani)

9:25: Willian, who has been outstanding this evening almost tees Schurrle up for a sixth. Schalke want to go home.

9:22: PSG have their lead back in Paris and it's Ibrahimovic on the scene to score against his former club. That goal moves them back ahead of Barcelona in their group, for the time being at least.

Goal! PSG 2-1 Ajax (Zlatan Ibrahimovic)

9:18: You know what? Chelsea might have this one in the bag. Cesc Fabregas floats a ball over to Willian on the right who finds Drogba in the centre. The Ivorian's movement was excellent in the build up as he anticipated the ball coming his way and was perfectly placed to tap home his side's fourth. Having just come on the pitch to replace Oscar, Ramires wants in on the action too, nodding in at the near post from Drogba's cross.

Goal! Schalke 0-5 Chelsea (Ramires)

Goal! Schalke 0-4 Chelsea (Didier Drogba)

9:12: Neuer denies Lampard! A loose Bayern pass (!) allows Fernando to pick out Jovetic who lays it off first time for the former Chelsea midfielder. He hammers it first time but the Bayern goalkeeper gets a hand to it and palms over the bar. City have a corner but Neuer is out to collect.

Goal! PSG 1-1 Ajax (Davt Klaassen)

9:11: Nearly an instant impact from Jovetic who almost slides Aguero through on goal but his pass is just overhit after turning Dante.

9:09: Manuel Pellegrini introduces Stevan Jovetic with his side chasing an equaliser, replacing James Milner.

9:07: Diego Costa, still looking for his first Champions League goal as a Chelsea player, hasn't had the best of evenings despite his side's dominance. His evening is over, with Didier Drogba onto replace him.

9:04: Ivanovic comes within a whisker of adding a superb fourth for Chelsea. Willian races into space down the left but doesn't have much support in the box. He waits for Ivanovic to catch up on the opposite side and finds him in the right hand corner of the box, unleashing a spectacular volley across goal that is inches away from finding the back of the net.

9:02: Messi has another on his record breaking night in Europe, receiving a pass from Dani Alves inside the box before lifting the ball into the far corner.

Goal! APOEL 0-3 Barcelona (Lionel Messi)

8:56: Lampard tees up Milner on the edge of the box who takes a touch and attempts to curl one into the top right hand corner, but it flies wide of Neuer's post.

8:54: Navas breaks into space again down the inside right following Nasri's through ball. This time he opts to shoot but Neuer is equal to it. City have the corner but nothing comes from it.

8:52: Now it's City's turn to swarm forward as Navas drives down the right with Aguero breaking into space down the middle but the Spaniard's ball into the middle is a poor one and it is easily cleared.

8:50: City receive a huge let off at the start of the half. Fernando loses possession and Bayern swarm forward with Alonso leading the charge. He looks wide for Ribery and gets the ball back on the edge of the area in space but scoops his first time effort over the bar.

8:48: And we are back underway for the second half.

HALF TIME

Manchester City 1-2 Bayern Munich

APOEL 0-2 Barcelona

PSG 1-0 Ajax

Schalke 0-3 Chelsea

Sporting 2-1 NK Maribor

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

8:32: Bayern have the lead! Lewandowski shows tremendous strength to hold off Sagna and get on the end of cross swung in from the right. The ball may have come off his shoulder, but he got enough on it to see the ball loop over Hart into the back of the net. City trail at half time.

8:31: Schalke aren't helping their cause tonight. Fabregas swings a decent corner into the box where Kirchoff makes room for himself to nod a firm header past his own goalkeeeper. He was one of three Schalke players attempting to get on the end of the cross, slapstick stuff. They are 3-0 down at half time.

Goal! Manchester City 1-2 Bayern Munich (Robert Lewandowski)

Goal! Schalke 0-3 Chelsea (Jan Kirchhoff OG)

8:28: Messi has the record! The Argentine has scored his side's second of the evening and his 72nd in the Champions League. It came via a deflection, but I doubt he's fussed.

BREAKING: Lionel Messi becomes the Champions League's all-time top goalscorer.

Goal! APOEL 0-2 Barcelon (Lionel Messi)

8:26: Alonso surprises everyone! Robben leaves it and the Spaniard steers a low effort under wall and into the far corner with Joe Hart rooted to the spot.

Goal! Manchester City 1-1 Bayern Munich (Xabi Alonso)

8:24: Even with 10 men, Bayern are capable of passing through teams. A neat move frees Lewandowski on the edge of the box before he is clumsily tripped by Mangala. From 25 yards out, Robben stands over the free kick.

Goal! Sporting 2-0 Maribor (Nani)

8:20: City are playing with an extra spring in their step now. They are first to every loose ball and putting Bayern under more pressure and forcing them into one or two stray passes.

8:17: Chelsea cruising. Willian caps a wonderful, flowing move from Jose Mourinho's side after a one two with Hazard before firing a shot straight through Fahrmann.

8:14: Suarez has his first goal in Barca colours after brilliantly turning his man on the edge of the box, letting the ball run through his legs before collecting it and slotting it past the goalkeeper.

Goal! Schalke 0-2 Chelsea (Willian)

Goal! APOEL 0-1 Barcelona (Luis Suarez)

8:10: Pep Guardiola has responded by introducing Dante, with Rode the one sacrificed on his full European debut.

8:08: City have the lead! A hoofed clearance catches Benatia out and allows Aguero to race past him through on goal. The Moroccan slides in, gets none of the ball and a bit of the Argentine and it is no surprise to see the Moroccan sent off. Neuer guesses the right way for the resulting penalty, but Aguero finds the back of the net.

Goal! Manchester City 1-0 Bayern Munich (Segio Aguero)

RED CARD - Benatia (Bayern Munich)

PENALTY (Manchester City)

8:05: Bayern suddenly step up a gear through Robben as he rides a challenge down the left before arrowing a cross across the face of goal. It falls to the onrushing Rafinha who slams a low effort on goal but Mangala makes a good block.

8:03: Aguero scampers into space down the right following Mangala's clearance but Bayern comfortably deal with the ball into the box. The visitors have assumed control of possession with Xabi Alonso dictating play in these opening 20 minutes.

8:01: After being battered in the opening 10 minutes Schalke nearly pull one back! Choupo-Moting receives the ball down the right channel, cuts in and fires for goal. The ball cannons off the ankles of Cahill, fools Courtois and cracks off the top of the bar!

Goal! Sporting 1-0 NK Maribor (Mane)

7:57: Rode denied by Hart! Ribery lifts a wonderful lofted pass into the box to find Rode's diagonal run into the box but Hart is out quickly to make a vital block.

7:55: Schalke are all over the proverbial shop at the minute. Chelsea look threatening every time they advance, this time it's Eden Hazard scampering down the wing before firing in a cross with Oscar lurking. Howedes just about gets across to clear, but you feel another goal coming.

7:52: Man City have started well against Bayern, moving the ball crisply across the pitch with Nasri and Aguero looking to stretch their backline. Clichy does well to evade a challenge out on the left and swings a ball into the box but Lampard jumps too early and can't get his header on target.

7:49: Chelsea lead! Willian frees Diego Costa down the inside left channel and the Spain international wins the corner. It's launched into the box where Terry is well placed to out jump Howedes and plant a header into the back of the net.

Goal! Schalke 0-1 Chelsea (Jon Terry)

7:47: Mangala is almost caught in possession yards outside the edge of his own box by Lewandowski but just about gets away with it. Sergio Aguero tries to spring a counter attack, looking for Nasri down the inside left channel but his shot is blocked.

7:45: And we are just about to get underway across the continent. We will have goal updates from all this evening's games coming your way as soon as they hit the back of the net.

7:36: While their fate won't be sealed this evening, a defeat at the hands of German champions Bayern Munich will leave Man City in an all-or-nothing shoot out with Roma on the final day of the group stages, with CSKA also still in contention to gate crash the final 16.

Elimination will continue City's miserable run in this competition and midfielder Samir Nasri believes that return for a squad of their quality is simply not good enough.

Let's be honest, with the salary of every player and the level of those players, 90% of the team are world class, then not to qualify from the first round of the Champions League would be a huge blow for the club - and for us as well.

7:30: That leaves us with six fixtures this evening. They are:

Manchester City v Bayern Munich

APOEL v Barcelona

PSG v Ajax

Schalke v Chelsea

Sporting v NK Maribor

Shakhtar Donetsk v Athletic Bilbao

7:25: In addition to the 1-1 draw with Moscow that has handed City a Champions League reprieve there has been one other result already this evening. Porto have moved five points clear at the top of Group H thanks to a 3-0 win over BATE.

TEAM NEWS

Chelsea: Jose Mourinho promised to field a full strength side tonight and he's kept his word. Chelsea are unchanged from the side that beat West Brom 2-0 on Saturday afternoon which remains Diego Costa leads the line for the Blues

Manchester City: City are without the suspended Yaya Toure and Fernandinho, forcing Manuel Pellegrini to reshuffle his midfield. Fernando and Lampard come in while Sergio Aguero also starts despite an injury worry on Monday. David Silva remains sidelined with a knee problem.

7:13: Chelsea meanwhile could have sealed their qualification last week but were held to a 1-1 draw against NK Maribor a fortnight ago. They lead Group G and a score draw this evening will be enough for them to seal their place in the knock out stages, but their opponents this evening Schalke still harbour desires of displacing them at the top with just three points separating the pair.

7:10: As it stands, Manchester City will not be eliminated from the Champions League this evening. A 1-1 draw between CSKA Moscow and AS Roma earlier this evening has handed them a reprieve, and a draw tonight and a win in Rome in two weeks can guarantee them passage to the next round. Even defeat to Pep Guardiola's side tonight leaves City with a chance of qualifying from their group with a mere five points should they win in a fortnight.
