A man wearing a balaclava attempted to snatch a 10-year-old boy as he walked home. The incident happened at around 4pm on Wednesday 23 December, along Redvale Road in Bury.

Recounting the incident to police, the boy said a man approached him from behind and put his hand on his shoulder. The boy turned to see the man, who was wearing a balaclava. As the man grabbed him, he managed to break free and ran home.

The man is described as being around 6ft 2in tall and was wearing black clothes and black gloves Sky News reports.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Pearson said: "Clearly this was very upsetting for the boy and the community will be understandably concerned. We have searched the area and will continue to patrol the area but would ask people in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police so we can respond appropriately."

Police are appealing for information and witnesses. "If anyone was in the area at the time and may have seen the encounter I would urge you to get in touch."
