Andy Murray has been seeded third at the US Open. The Brit dropped to third in the ATP World Rankings following Roger Federer's Cincinnati Masters victory with the Swiss now seeded second for the final major of the year, behind top seed Novak Djokovic. The draw keeps Djokovic and Federer on opposite halves on the draw, meaning they can only meet in a potential final. Murray will find himself on the same half as one of the top two ranked players in the world.

The 2014 champion Marin Cilic is seeded ninth with runner-up Kei Nishikori fourth. Rafael Nadal, looking to end a miserable 2015 on a positive note, is seeded eighth. Serena Williams, chasing a her fourth Grand Slam of the year, tops the women's seed with Simona Halep of Romania seeded second ahead of 2006 champion Maria Sharapova.

A win at Flushing Meadows for Williams will seal her first calendar-year grand slam, having already won the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon this year.This year's competition begins on Monday 31 August.
