Manchester United will take on Wigan Athletic in a pre-season friendly fixture at the DW Stadium on Saturday (16 July).

Where to watch live

Kick-off is set for 1.30pm BST. Live coverage of the match will be available on MUTV and MUTV HD.

Overview

United had confirmed in May that Jose Mourinho will be their new manager as the Portuguese tactician replaced Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. The 53-year-old officially took charge in July and started working with his players.

Mourinho helped United sign Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer, however, the former Swedish international will not be a part of the Red Devils' squad to face Wigan.

It will be the ex-Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager's first match in charge at United and the club's supporters will get a chance to watch Baily and Mkhitaryan in action for the first time in United shirts.

The fixture could also see left-back Luke Shaw return to action for the first time since he broke his leg against PSV Eindhoven last summer.

Wigan, on the hand, will rely on their star striker Will Grigg. His chant "Will Grigg's on fire, your defence is terrified" became viral during the Euro 2016 and is likely to continue going forward. He could be the cause of trouble to United's defenders at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

United have faced Wigan 18 times in all competitions. Baring the 1-0 defeat against the Latics in 2011/12 season, the Red Devils have won the remaining fixtures. The Old Trafford outfit have an impressive record against the recently promoted Championship side, scoring 56 goals and conceding only five in the process.
