A five-year-old boy has died after a car crash in Cardiff. Five adults and two children were cut free from vehicles involved in the three-car pile-up in Western Avenue.

The boy was taken to the University Hospital of Wales but later died. A two-year-old girl was among those taken to hospital and is described as being in a critical condition. An air ambulance was sent to the scene, along with police and fire crews.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has warned people not to attend University of Wales Hospital unless essential. It tweeted: "The emergency unit at UHW is busy treating those injured in today's serious crash. Please think carefully before attending."

Motorists have been warned of "significant" delays on the road, and diversions are in place. South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
