American Music Awards 2014, the 42nd annual awards honouring the best in the music industry, kicked off at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles.

The popular event was attended by the biggest singers including, One Direction, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Tylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

Taylor Swift kicked off the star-studded evening by performing live on her new single Blank Space.

One Direction, Iggy Azalea and 5 Seconds of Summer were among the big winners of the night.

Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj stormed the AMA stage with their thunderous performance to the song Bang Bang.

Selena Gomez added an emotional touch to the award night by performing her latest single The Heart Wants What it Wants and reportedly shed tears during her performance.

Amid the big acts of the Pitbull hosted award ceremony, the winners were announced.

Taylor Swift won the most prestigious award, the first-ever Dick Clark Award of Excellence which was presented to her by legendary singer Diana Ross.
