They have only been married a few weeks but it looks like Angelina Jolie is already vying for the Best Wife Award.

The Hollywood actress has reportedly bought her new husband Brad Pitt a 1952 Patek Philippe platinum watch, worth an impressive £2m ($3m), as a wedding gift.

According to the Mirror, the Maleficent actress made the rare Swiss timepiece extra special by inscribing it with the words ''To Roly from Nessa'', a reference to the characters they play in By The Sea.

The couple, who fell in love on the set of the 2005 action thriller Mr & Mrs Smith, have teamed up again for Jolie's directorial debut, which they are filming in Malta.

George Farrugia, who runs Dolindo Jewellers on the neighbouring island of Gozo, had the pleasure of working on the coveted watch for Jolie.

''I did inscribe the watch, it was for Brad and it was a rare one," the 57-year-old told the Daily Mirror.

''Oh yes, it was very valuable. I wasn't nervous about the inscription because I knew I could do the work perfectly.''

It is safe to say that Jolie has never held back when it comes to treating Pitt.

In 2013, she reportedly went all out and bought her other half the £12m heart-shaped secluded Petra Island, located some 50-miles away from New York City, for his 50th birthday.

"As soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed. The house is perfect for romantic getaways or as a family retreat," a source said at the time.

For his 45th birthday she splashed the cash on a Ducati Monster 1100S titanium motorbike.
