Inter Milan defender Lucio has urged the Serie A club to sign Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas.

Lucas, 19, has been heavily linked with a move to Europe after a string of impressive displays for his club and the Brazilian national team.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have reportedly kept tabs on the midfielder over the last 12 months but Lucio believes the player would be better suited to Serie A than the Premier League.

"He always works hard in training and is a humble lad," Lucio is quoted in Football Italia.

"I know Lucas very well and Inter ought to run to sign him straight away. He is a wide attacker with a great deal of quality, all combined with exceptional pace.

"I remember during Copa America training, he'd often face Dani Alves during games between ranks and it was always a fiery battle. I think Lucas is better suited to Italian and European football than Neymar."

The Sao Paulo youngster was named the best player in the UNder-20 South American championships in 2010 and has since gone on to become a regular in the senior national team.

Meanwhile, Lucio has revealed he does not see himself staying in Italy for the remainder of his career.

"Sooner of later, I want to return to play in Brazil. In fact, I only played [regularly] for a year-and-ahalf in my country," he added.

"I do not know whether I will choose to live here [Italy], Brazil or Germany [after I retire]. I must say that me and my family had a great time in Germany but then came [Louis] van Gaal," he said.
