Britney Spears Models Lingerie, Says She 'Felt Like a Robot' and Reveals 'Real Damage' From Conservatorship

Britney Spears has opened up about the lasting impact of her 13-year conservatorship, saying she 'felt like a robot' and suffered damage to her 'heart and soul' as she shared new Instagram videos modelling black lingerie.

The 44-year-old pop star reflected on years of performing and public appearances she says felt forced, more than four years after the legal arrangement controlling major aspects of her life was terminated.

Spears shared two Instagram reels on Thursday showing herself in an embellished black bra with matching underwear, high heels and a black choker while filming in front of a full-length mirror.

In one caption, the 'Toxic' singer recalled a friend questioning why she was wearing a 'rock 'n' roll bra', telling her the look was unlike her. Spears agreed, explaining that although she would not ordinarily choose the style, she had worn similar outfits as a performer during 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll'.

The Grammy winner said she has 'changed big time' and is now proud of herself for 'shutting it all down', claiming that performing had been 'forced' for too many years.

Spears also recalled experiencing shaking and asthma symptoms when she had to meet more than 10 people during meet-and-greets. She appeared to claim that her father, Jamie Spears, had her meeting groups of around 70 people.

'I lost the sensitivity of my soul,' Spears wrote, adding: 'I felt like a robot.'

She described herself as secretly 'very sensitive and painfully shy', despite spending much of her career performing in front of huge audiences.

Britney Spears Reveals 'Real Damage' From Conservatorship

In her second caption, Spears directly addressed the impact she believes the conservatorship continues to have on her.

'I feel like, still to this day, people don't realize the real damage that was done to my heart and soul in the conservatorship,' she wrote.

Spears said that although she was naturally shy, performing allowed her to become 'someone different' on stage. She said her feelings about performing changed after becoming a mother to sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The singer said she eventually felt 'silly and embarrassed' adopting the stage persona that had previously helped her overcome her shyness.

Spears also reflected on her body confidence and personal life following her 2024 divorce from Sam Asghari.

She said she had 'been single for so long' and had rarely shown her body publicly, aside from an appearance in a green bathing suit.

Her latest comments come shortly after Spears shared another Instagram update saying she was single and enjoying her independence following her divorce from Asghari.

Britney Spears Recalls Meeting Shakira

The 'Woman in Me' author also revisited her early years in Los Angeles, recalling how she often felt like the youngest and shortest person in the room.

That changed when she met Shakira, whom Spears said was 'exactly' her size.

'We were honestly twins,' Spears wrote, saying the encounter made her finally 'feel normal'.

Spears linked the memory to Shakira's 2001 'Whenever, Wherever' video era. Contemporary accounts also document Spears discussing meeting Shakira while the two singers were working on music videos in 2001.

Britney Spears Conservatorship Ended in 2021

Spears was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship in 2008, with her father playing a major role in the arrangement. It remained in place for 13 years before a Los Angeles judge terminated it in November 2021.

Months before the conservatorship ended, Spears delivered explosive court testimony describing the arrangement as 'abusive' and saying she was traumatised by her experience.

She later detailed her life, career and experiences under the conservatorship in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. Her latest Instagram posts return to that period, this time focusing on what she says were the lasting effects on her personality, relationships and ability to connect with other people.
