Carl Froch secured his boxing legacy with an eighth round knock-out of George Groves to retain the IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles at Wembley Stadium.

Following a tightly contested first seven rounds, Froch, 37, caught Groves with a superb right-hand with the challenger unable to respond to the count of 10.

Victory silences the doubters following Froch's controversial victory last December while Groves at 26 still has a long career ahead of him.

"I am feeling unbelievable elated," Froch said. "This is the biggest moment of my career.

"This is far the biggest and best crowd I've ever boxed in front. George Groves should be proud as well.

"It was a close fight and sometimes in professional boxing it only takes on punch. Unfortunate George tonight he was on the other end of a big right hand.

Groves added: "Carl caught me with a shot but I'll comeback and ultimately I feel like I've let myself down but congratulations to Carl."
