Hurricane Patricia has reached the west coast of Mexico, which is bracing itself for what could be a catastrophic storm. The category 5 hurricane, which has seen gusts of over 300 kph, is reported to be generating a storm surge of up to 10 metres. The Mexican government has declared a state of emergency.
