One man has been arrested after a woman was found beheaded in a garden in north London.

Police were called to an address in Edmonton following reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival officers discovered a female collapsed in a garden area. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information has been given about the victim at this current time.

Her body currently remains at the location.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a "madman with a machete" in the area.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "At this very early stage we are not in a position to give further details. We will update in due course."

Police added there is no suggestion at this time the killing had any terrorist motive and it is not known if the woman and the suspect are known to each other.

A London Ambulance Service the woman was found dead when they arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson added: "We were called at 1.30pm to an incident in Nightingale Road, Edmonton.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including London's Air Ambulance, an ambulance crew and a duty officer.

"Sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance."
