Northern Ireland have lost their European cup qualifier against Serbia.

While the Northern Irish got in a good early chance, with Chris Baird and Chris Brunt teaming up to loose one off at the Serbs, a save from Bojan Jorgacevic ensured no early goals.

After the Northern Irish chance Serbia began a ruthless attack, with both Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Milan Jovanovic making serious attempts on goal, only to be denied by the keeper Lee Camp and the cross bar respectively.

Serbia continued to hit at the Northern Irish, with Marko Pantelic, Dejan Stankovic and Aleksandar Kolarov coming dangerously close. However luck was with the Northern Irish keeping the scoreline flat.

With minutes to go in the first half Zoran Tosic looked almost certain to score, only to be denied by defender Jonny Evens, who bodyguard like, put himself between the ball and the goal.

At half time the score was 0-0, but Serbia looked the more dangerous side.

When play resumed Northern Ireland got in a good attempt with Corry Evans attempting a header of a Jonny Evans cross, sadly it went over the bar.

Serbia, having dominated the first half, finally managed to get the lead with Steve Davis sending a suicidal back pass to Marko Pantelic, who turned Davis' blunder into a 1-0 lead.

The scoreline nearly went to 2-0 after Milan Jovanovic had a shot saved by keeper Lee Camp.

At only one nil down Northern Ireland attempted a final push, with everyone going up for a free kick, only to give away a free kick to Serbia after some pushing.

A disappointing night ended in a 1-0 defeat for Northern Ireland.
