US President Donald Trump blasted the "resistance" and criticism against him by taking a jab at Hillary Clinton during a campaign rally and Twitter is furiously roasting him over it. While speaking at a rally in Pensacola, Florida, on Friday (8 December) night, Trump took aim at protesters who go by the name "the resistance".

"Hillary resisted and you know what happened? She lost the election in a landslide," Trump said to cheers from the crowd. "You know what they're really resisting. They're resisting the will of the American people. That's what they're resisting."

The crowd then broke into chants of "lock her up", echoing chants that were heard at his campaign rallies during the race to the White House last year. The same chants have also been heard at Trump rallies even after he took office in January, often after he pokes fun at his former Democratic rival.

"They are resisting progress," Trump said. "They're resisting change. Because the only thing they really care about is protecting what they have been able to do, which is really control the country and not to your benefit."

He continued: "This is a rigged system. This is a sick system from the inside. And, you know, there's no country like our country, but we have a lot of sickness in some of our institutions, and we're working very hard. We've got a lot of them straightened out, but we do have - we really do - a rigged system in this country, and we have to change it. Terrible. Terrible."

Twitter furiously erupted with a slew of biting remarks and comments slamming the supporters crowd over the "ridiculous" chant as well as the president for "inspiring" it.

Many mocked Trump and his supporters in light of the recent charges against multiple former aides in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the election and ties between Trump's team and Moscow.

"A good old fashioned, 'Lock Her Up!' chant breaks out at Trump's Pensacola rally. Note: Four Trump campaign staffers are now facing felony charges," reporter Steve Peoples tweeted.

One user wrote: "It has been 56 weeks and 3 days since the November 2016 election and Trump supporters are still chanting 'lock her up!' at his rallies"

"Will any of them EVER grow up?" one person asked.

"Trump said we have a rigged system in the United States at his Make America Hate Rally as the ignorant bigots shouted 'lock her up.' An absolute f**king disgrace. #TheResistance" one person said.
