Dozens of London firefighters are tackling a blaze in Hackney after shops in the hipster hangout went up in flames this afternoon (Monday, 15 June).

Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers are tackling a fire at a range of shops on Yorkton Street in Hackney after the incident was reported at 1.01pm.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage but thick black smoke can be seen from miles away and residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed if affected.

One man in his 50s was taken to Royal London Hospital after sustaining an arm injury and suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from Soho, Islington, Holloway, Shoreditch, Homerton, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Tottenham and Poplar fire stations are at the scene.
