A vehicle that sped away from police in Bradford, West Yorkshire, has killed a 12-year-old boy. The car did not stop after hitting the boy, who was trying to cross near Asda on Rooley Lane.

"He tragically died of his injuries," said the police.

The red Seat Ibiza had been stopped by the police for a check but as soon as the officers stepped out of their car, the driver took off.

The speeding car went on to collide with two other vehicles before it was recovered on Westfield Lane, Wyke.

Two people have been arrested and are being questioned.

"This is a tragedy for the family and they are absolutely devastated. Specially trained officers are currently working with them. I am appealing directly to anyone who saw the vehicle being driven or the incident to get in contact," said Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

"I need the community to come forward and tell me what has happened and what they have seen to help bring justice to the family."
