Disney has released the first trailer for Pixar's anticipated animated sequel to superhero favourite The Incredibles, set for release next year. The short teaser focuses on infant Jack-Jack, who is unable to control his super-powers.

The sequel picks up right where the 2004 original left off, with Mr Incredible (Craig T Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) now a superhero unit with their children Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and Jack-Jack.

Pixar boss John Lasseter revealed earlier this year that the film would start with the Parrs fighting supervillain The Underminer, whose entrance served as the ending of the first film.

Director Brad Bird added at the time that Elastigirl would find herself at "the forefront of the action, while Bob [Mr Incredible] has to stay home facing his biggest challenge yet."

It seems that challenge is Jack-Jack, who was believed to be without his own powers for much of the original, only for his babysitter to be tortured by their manifestation and for them to later foil Jason Lee's villain Syndrome, who had taken him hostage.

In the new teaser we see Jack-Jack cycling through multiple powers, before using laser vision to carve the film's logo so the 'I' becomes 'II'. We then see Mr Incredible excitedly say: "You have powers! Yeah baby!"

Jack-Jack's laser vision returns then, taking a chunk of his dad's hair.

Brad Bird's original film came during Pixar's legendary hot streak from Toy Story 2 to Toy Story 3, which saw the likes of Finding Nemo, Up, Wall-E and Monsters Inc released in between. The Incredibles made more than $600m at the worldwide box office.

Samuel L Jackson returns as Frozone alongside the family, except for Spencer Fox, who has been replaced by Milner as speedster Dash.

The Incredibles 2 is set for release on 13 July 2018.
