Manchester United are weighing up a move for Bordeaux winger Malcom after Jose Mourinho had him scouted last season.

The Brazilian, who joined the Ligue 1 club from Corinthians in 2016, impressed in his debut campaign scoring seven goals in 37 league appearances which has attracted the interest of the Premier League big guns.

Malcom has continued his good form and has already notched up seven strikes in his first 17 league games this campaign. According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho has had the Brazil Under-23 player extensively scouted and is now plotting a move during the upcoming January transfer window.

The report claims that the Red Devils will have to fork out at least £30m to have a chance of signing the young winger as Bordeaux are reluctant to sell the player. Another stumbling block in front of United is that the French club could be unwilling to sell midway through the campaign and will only consider the transfer next summer.

Apart from the 20-time English champions, Arsenal and Chelsea are also said to have entered the race to sign the Bordeaux winger, who is contracted to the French club until the summer of 2021.

United, however, have an advantage in the race for his signature after he expressed a desire to join the Old Trafford club after learning of their interest at the end of last season.

"Even when I was at Corinthians these rumours [of a move to United] were already happening," Malcom was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

"I have a calm mind about that. I have a focused thought on the pitch and I leave it to my agent and my family to take care of.

"Then, who knows, if a bid comes up I'll think of leaving, but now I'll just concentrate on playing football," the Brazilian youngster added with regards to his future.

Mourinho has made signing a winger a priority after missing out on signing Ivan Perisic in the summer. Apart from Malcom, Mourinho is continuing to maintain his interest in Gareth Bale, who is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
