The Daily Mail suggests Italian champions AC Milan are lining up a transfer bid for Liverpool's Spanish goal keeper Pepe Reina.

It seems Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri is hunting for a new shot-stopper, given the club's present first-choice - Christian Abbiati - turns 35 this summer and produced an unconvincing string of performances last season. Reina is presently on national team duty at the 2012 European Championships. The 29 year old is believed to be happy at Anfield but could be tempted by a move to the Serie A giants.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has expressed a desire to sign a contract extension with the Reds. The 27 year old Danish captain had an impressive Euro 2012 and has only two years left on Liverpool contract.

"It's no secret that I'm happy to be in Liverpool. Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years. I have not [discussed a new contract] but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them. It's not something that is urgent, for I have contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen," Goal.com quoted Agger as saying.

The central defender joined Liverpool in 2006 from Danish side Brondby and also admitted to being excited at the prospect of working with new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

"I am looking forward to meeting the new coach. I've seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive," the centre-back pointed out.

In other Liverpool news, former Reds winger Patrick Berger has played down the club's chances of being in the Premier League title race next season. The five-time European champions are in a period of transition following the appointment of Rodgers as Kenny Dalglish's successor. Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Berger believes the current squad makes it impossible for the club to become a title contender.

"They are far away from challenging, nowhere near in my opinion. Hopefully I'll be wrong and they'll push the top teams for the Premier League title but I can't see it happening any time soon. A couple of years back they had [Fernando] Torres up front, then players like Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane in reserve, Craig Bellamy too," Sky Sports quoted the former Czech Republic international as pointing out, "They used to have a big squad with quality players. Now they just have a big squad. These days when I see who is the on bench for Liverpool, I don't know who some of these guys are. It has to be different."

Berger spent seven seasons at Anfield - from 1996 to 2003 - and won the FA and UEFA Cups.
