A man was stabbed after a dispute involving a 9-year-old girl wearing a clown mask in Portsmouth.

The 28-year-old victim was attacked by two other men after a confrontation at Sedgley Close housing estate in the Somerstown at 8.30pm on Thursday (27 October).

According to Mail Online, the man is alleged to have lashed out at the girl, who was returning from a Halloween party with her mother.

Witnesses claim the woman returned with the two men, who are alleged to have stabbed the victim.

Detective Inspector Linda Howard from Hampshire Constabulary said: "It has been reported that this incident was sparked by an earlier altercation involving a child wearing a clown mask. This is one of the lines of inquiry being followed."

"But at this time we would ask people not to speculate further and instead contact the investigation team if you have any information about what happened."

The 34-year-old woman, two 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy are being held in police custody.

The 28-year-old victim has now been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries, Sky News reports.

Edgbaston House has been sealed off as detectives examine the scene for evidence.
