Manchester United are reportedly set to rekindle their interest in signing Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin as an alternative option to Juventus star Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window. However, the deal has still not taken any shape and United are believed to be frustrated in their ongoing pursuit of Vidal.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils are planning to turn their attention to signing Guarin after Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri admitted that Vidal was going nowhere.

"Arturo Vidal is a Juventus player. He did train earlier today, although he is currently training alone with a different set of preparations to boost his fitness after the operation," the Italian champions' manager explained.

The Red Devils were interested in signing the Colombian international in the January transfer window. However, the deal did not make headway as Guarin continued with the Serie A outfit.

United are planning to revive their interest in the 28-year-old as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his side's midfield for the new campaign. They have signed only Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is looking to bring in another midfielder to play alongside Herrera. United have Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley as the recognised midfielders in the squad, along with the Spaniard.

Carrick is sidelined due to injury and will not return till September. Fletcher recovered from long-term illness and was part of the pre-season squad for the first time in three years. The England international, Cleverley, had a poor form during the previous season.

Van Gaal wanted to sign Vidal and delay in signing the Juventus star has forced him to look elsewhere in the market. United's hopes of sealing a deal for Guarin will be encouraged as the Independent reports that Inter are willing to part ways with their player.

The Red Devils need to strengthen their squad and with just a fortnight remaining in the transfer window, Van Gaal and United need to act quickly in order to make further signings.
