Mauricio Pochettino has lavished praise on Ryan Mason, after the Tottenham midfielder impressed during his Premier League debut in the North London derby 1-1 draw against Arsenal

Having scored a goal in the Capital One Cup 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in a midweek match, the Argentinian boss handed the midfielder a new chance at the Emirates Stadium.

"I think he did a fantastic job. It was a big game, away to Arsenal, so I am happy for him and congratulate him," Pochettino said, according to Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, the Spurs boss expressed his delighted after his team secured a point in his first North London derby since he arrived to White Hart Lane earlier this summer.

"It is a good result for us. Arsenal had control of the game and had the ball more than us, but we played well. We were very compact and took our opportunity to score, so I am happy with the performance in a difficult game," he said.

"I have to congratulate my players. We tried to win the game, but I think a draw is fair. It was important for us. We need to build our team."

Nacer Chadli put the Spurs in front but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain equalised the game with 15 minutes remaining to share the points.

"We scored a good goal. This is our philosophy. It is difficult to keep that philosophy for 90 minutes at the moment, but we are going to try."
